It’s that time again on the ExceptionalSheets Blog where we find the best review of the week on one of our products and share it with you. We have a great one this week from someone who purchased a set of our 1000 thread count Egyptian Cotton Sheets….and they are very happy with their purchase. It is from a self-proclaimed “sheet snob”, so we take their review and opinions very seriously. Take a look below!
Holy moly! These are VERY nice sheets
I admit to being a bit of a “sheet snob” and am usually willing to pay a hefty sum for high quality sheets. I have enough trouble getting a good night’s sleep without using uncomfortable or “hot” sheets. But when an old sheet set finally gave up the ghost, I decided to try these although I was skeptical because of the comparatively low price.
They only took three days to get here and came with a form thank you letter from the owner with a handwritten thank you noted on the side. My first impression on unwrapping was how incredibly heavy they were. These are very densely woven sheets and I was even concerned that the top sheet might prove to be too heavy. The next thing I noticed was the pillow cases. The problem I usually have with Cal King sheet sets is that they always include king pillow cases. I’m sure someone must use those long, narrow cases but they are useless to me. Even with hemming, they are usually too narrow for a standard pillow. The cases included here are indeed king but they are fully as wide as a standard case. They are HUGE. Seem almost as big as a crib sheet.
I washed and removed from the drier immediately. Since this was heavy cotton of course there was wrinkling but not to the point that ironing was necessary except for the heavy top hem of the top sheet and pillow cases. Not that I actually ironed them, mind you
The bottom sheet left 2 or 3 inches of overhang on each side of our 14″ mattress so I’m confident they would have fit our old 17″ easily. And like the pillow cases, the top sheet is huge. I don’t think they make a mattress too deep for that.
The first night sleeping on the sheets was a bit of an adjustment since they didn’t have the lovely, silky feel of an old well-worn set. Egyptian cotton is one of those rare things like some wines that improve dramatically with age and it takes while to get that wonderful soft feel. But if you are a “hot” sleeper, high thread count egyptian or supima cotton is really the only way to go. But after the initial adjustment I got a great night’s sleep without feeling hot once.
I dithered between a four or five star review. The only reasons I don’t completely love these yet are because 1) they don’t yet have the “aged” feel, 2) it came with king pillow cases that have a heavy “seam” along the edge and 3) I hate it when that top hem wrinkles. But 1) is unavoidable with this fabric and can only be remedied with time, 2) is the case of all king sheets sets and these at least can be hemmed to be perfect and 3) is also largely unavoidable with heavy fabric and probably will not improve with time. So all things considered, five stars.
